Betty Dion

Betty Dion has over 35 years of experience and expertise in universal and accessible design, enabling her to apply a comprehensive understanding of design and human functioning to ensuring codes, standards and regulations are developed which will benefit the greatest number of users.

In Canada, she is a member of the NBC Executive Committee and she served as Chair of the Canadian Standards Association CSA/CANB651-M04 Accessibility of the Built Environment Standard Committee for 10 years, and continues to be a member of the Committee. Betty has also participated on other Canadian standards for seniors, children and people with disabilities, including the CSA Steering Committee on Public Safety and the CSA Z614 Standard on Children's Playspaces.

Internationally, Betty is a recognized International leader in accessibility of the built and virtual environments. She is the Founder and Past President of GAATES, the Global Alliance on Accessible Technologies and Environments, and is a participating member of the ISO /TC 59/SC 16/WG1 standard on Accessibility and Usability of the Built Environment, working towards the development of an international standard on accessibility.

Marnie Peters

Marnie Peters has over 12 years of experience in universal and accessible design and is an integral associate to the BDEL firm. She works closely with Betty on all projects, was the lead researcher on the International Best Practices document and is an expert a reviewing drawings and conducting accessibility audits.
