The documents compare the accessibility codes and standards from developed and developing nations, in order to determine the"Best Practices" in universal design, which are presented together with photographs, drawings and technical specifications.

Upcoming 3rd Edition
The firm will work as part of a team that has recently begun work on a third edition, which will encompass codes from both developed and developing countries, and contain a broader scope of comparisons, and be part of a searchable database available on the GAATES site (www.gaates.org).

BDEL is the recognized International accessibility expert in international building codes and standards, both in the development of standards and analysis of codes. The firm has authored the International Best Practices in Universal Design: A Global Review, distributed to over 6000 organizations and individuals around the world and recognized winner of the 2008 UN Habitat Dubai International Award for Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment. The document examines and compares accessibility-related technical specifications of building codes from around the world and presented examples of best practices. In addition, the firm was actively involved in the research and development of the technical requirements for the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Built Environment Standard.
